Born in Santiago, Chile in 1969, after living for a while in Peru, England and France, Javie Munoz, settled with her family in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 1975. Born into an artistic family, she was introduced to various forms of art at a tender age. She already started taking oil painting classes with Ana-Maria Pavela at age 12.
In 2001, Javie Munoz discovered Martinique (French West Indies) with its special aura and tropical colours. She was taken by the tropical flowers, the landscape and heritage of this island. She draws inspiration from the power of colours, nature and the people around her.
She is searching for the root of lifestyle and beliefs of different cultures and the complexity of human relations. Using contrast and luminosity, she endeavours to create awareness. She explores the emotional language generated by colours and shapes.
Even though Javie Munoz is inspired by a particular environment, for her painting is a universal language. It enables her to relate to others without the discourse. The themes are local, the tropical Antilles and Quebec winter but the emotions evoked are universal. She particularly likes painting with oil, pastel and Conte. |
